Two energies, one 30-minute session
Emsculpt NEO combines synchronized radiofrequency (RF) and HIFEM® (high-intensity focused electromagnetic) energy in one applicator (BTL):
- Radiofrequency gently heats the treated area to target fat cells and warm up the muscle.
- HIFEM triggers powerful supramaximal muscle contractions, far beyond what you can do voluntarily, to build strength and tone.
Most people feel deep warmth and strong, rhythmic contractions, like an intense workout without the effort. There is no downtime.
Muscle up, fat down, measured
Figures come from BTL, the device maker, and from a peer-reviewed, sham-controlled clinical trial. They are group averages, not a prediction of any individual result.
In the 2022 randomized trial, 48 participants received three weekly abdominal treatments with simultaneous radiofrequency and HIFEM (the Emsculpt NEO technology) and 24 received a sham treatment. Results measured by ultrasound were maintained at 6 months, the sham group showed no significant change, and treatments were reported as comfortable (read the open-access study). BTL also reports 87% patient satisfaction (BTL, data on file).

Who should not have Emsculpt NEO
Emsculpt NEO is not right for everyone. Treatment is not performed if you are:
- Pregnant, or might be pregnant
- Living with a pacemaker, defibrillator, neurostimulator, drug pump or other electronic implant
- Living with metal implants in or near the treatment area
- Living with heart disease, lung insufficiency, a bleeding disorder or a malignant tumor, or have a fever or acute inflammation

Is Emsculpt NEO FDA-cleared?
Yes. Emsculpt NEO is an FDA-cleared device (FDA clearance is different from FDA approval). It is cleared for non-invasive lipolysis (fat reduction) and circumference reduction of the abdomen and thighs, lipolysis of the flanks and upper arms with skin-type and BMI limits, and strengthening and toning of the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, calves and arms.

What results can I expect?
BTL reports an average 25% increase in muscle and 30% reduction in fat. In a sham-controlled trial, the abdomen showed an average 28% fat reduction and 24% increase in muscle thickness at 3 months. Results vary.
When will I see results?
Some people notice a difference soon after their treatments. In the 2022 trial, changes were measurable 1 month after the last session and continued to improve at 3 months.

Adults who are near their goal weight and want more muscle tone and less stubborn fat. BTL notes Emsculpt NEO is suitable for patients with a BMI up to 35. It is not a weight-loss treatment.

Once your OB/GYN clears you, Emsculpt NEO can help rebuild core strength and tone. It is not a treatment for diastasis recti (abdominal separation); ask your physician to evaluate that. In BTL’s data, 97% of women after childbirth reported a stronger core after Core to Floor treatment.

How strong is the evidence?
The strongest study is a randomized, sham-controlled trial of 72 people. Other studies are small and many are authored by BTL advisors. An independent systematic review found consistent but modest average changes in fat and muscle thickness, and called for larger independent trials. We think you deserve to know that.
